Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout tight end Akeem Robinson continued to dominate the opposition today…
Camp Update: Akeem Robinson
Robinson is being recruited by some schools to play tackle but is working out with the tight ends.
"UM is recruiting me as a tight end so they wanted me to work out there," he said. "There are some other good players out there but I think I'm starting to pull away from the rest of the pack. Give me the ball and those linebackers will see what happens next. I see guys like Willie [Williams], Brouce [Mompremier], and Vernon [Wilder] over there and that's what I like. I'm going into tomorrow with the same mentality -- just keep catching passes and playing with a lot of effort."
Robinson said he hopes to impress UM enough tomorrow to receive a scholarship offer.
"They said some guys can earn scholarships," he said. "I want to be one of them. I want to go out and prove tomorrow that I can play tight end at the University of Miami. Coach CJ's been talking to me for awhile and now I want all the coaches to see it."
One negative part of Robinson's camp experience, according to the tight end himself, isn't going to bother him.
"I didn't like my 40-time (5.10) but I've been able to wipe that out because of how well I've played during 1 on 1 drills and seven-on-sevens. I tell those guys to give me the ball and I'll handle the rest -- juike Bubba Franks used to do there."
Robinson had a chance to compete against Williams in a one-on-one drill on Sunday.
"I had him beaten by a step," he said. "I was running to the corner and the quarterback just underthrew it a little bit. Willie hurried up and reached out and knocked it down. If the ball was a little further, I would have gotten it. It was fun though competeing against him."
