Fresh off a tough road win at Virginia Tech, undefeated Clemson returned home to Death Valley for a showdown with Boston College.
23.) Oct. 8, 2011
Clemson 36 Boston College 14
What Happened
In what’s become the norm for Clemson and Boston College, this win was hardly a walk in the park for
Dabo Swinney
and company.
The game was closer than the 36-14 result might indicate. Plus, fans left Death Valley feeling a little uneasy.
Tajh Boyd
, who completed 16 of 26 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown, left the game late in the third quarter after injuring his hip. Freshman backup
Cole Stoudt
came on in relief and helped the Tigers seal their sixth-straight win.
Chandler Catanzaro
chipped in with five field goals while
Andre Ellington
rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown.
On for an injured Tajh Boyd, Cole Stoudt played the entire fourth quarter of the 2011 Boston College win.
The Stakes
Coming off a big road win at Virginia Tech, No. 8 Clemson had to bounce back against an always tough Boston College team. A year earlier, the Eagles beat the Tigers in Chestnut Hill.
That road loss was still fresh on the minds of the players who took that long flight back home to Clemson.
Before and After
Clemson rolled into the game with a 5-0 record and took a perfect 6-0 mark to Maryland a week later. Fortunately, for the Tigers, Tajh Boyd was healthy enough to play and didn’t miss any more time to injury.
Clemson went on to start the season with eight consecutive wins before losing at Georgia Tech.
Their season ended with a 10-4 record, an ACC Championship and a trip to the Orange Bowl.
