Here is a recruiting update at the defensive tackle position for the Hurricanes.

Current Players: 1 senior, 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, 2 RS-freshmen, and 3 true freshmen

Current Commitments: Keith Bryant

Bryant (6-2/295) is one of the state's top defensive prospects. From Delray Atlantic, Bryant picked up an offer from the Canes following a Junior Day event back in January and committed right away since it's the school he's always wanted to play for. Since then, everyone else in college football has offered and because of that he will likely take a few visits later in the year. Still, he's considered a solid commitment.

Current Prospects: Quay Bain, Jaynard Bostwick, Scott Pagano, and Derrick Calloway

Bain (6-3/315) has been committed to Florida State since last October. That never stopped the Canes from recruiting the University School standout. He's a very athletic player for his size and has been to UM several times for unofficial visits in recent months. The Canes seem to be doing a great job recruiting him and this one seems like it could go either way in the end.

Bostwick (6-4/280) might be the state's most heavily recruited uncommitted defensive lineman right now. The St Lucie West Centennial standout has offers from just about everyone. He grew up a Miami fan, was offered early, and has developed a real good relationship with the Miami coaches. There's a real good chance he'll be in the 2013 recruiting class for the Canes.

Pagano (6-4/290) is from Hawaii and says the Canes offered him during the spring. It's unlikely that Miami will need to leave the state for defensive tackles this year so this kid must have really caught their attention. It's unlikely that he'll leave the West Coast but the Canes are still being considered.

Calloway (6-2/300) helped lead Bradenton Manatee to the state championship last season. He's a big plug in the middle of their defensive line and has drawn a lot of interest from major college programs. He says the Canes were among his early offers but they're likely taking a wait-and-see approach with him to see what may happen with a few others mentioned above.

Bottom Line: The Canes will have five freshman defensive tackles on the roster this fall so it's not a major need. However, it's a great year for them -- especially in South Florida -- and it's a position you can never have enough at. Bryant is solid. Bostwick is likely. Bain is probably 50/50 at worse. There's a chance the Canes could land the trio, which would likely give them the best interior D-Line class in America.
