Preview: Kansas State (defense)

The Hurricanes are set to take on Kansas State this Saturday so lets take a closer look at their defense.

Defensive Line:
Players: DE Meshak Williams (6-3/245/Sr) 29 tackles, 10 for loss, 7 sacks ... DE Adam Davis (6-0/255/Sr) 36-9-4 ... DT Vai Lutui (6-2/290/Sr) 34-2.5-1 ... DE John Sua (6-0/290/Sr) 5-0-0
Strengths: Williams is the leader of the group and is one of the top pass rushers in the entire Big 12. He will give Malcolm Bunche all he can handle, as he's a better pass rusher than anyone BC had on its roster.
Weaknesses: They lack ideal size. Both inside guys are listed at under 300 pounds and the other defensive end is listed at 6-feet. They are athletic but they lack bulk inside.

Linebacker:
Players: MLB Arthur Brown (6-1/225/Sr) 106-10.5-2-1 INT ... WLB Tre Walker (6-3/225/Jr) 100-5.5-1 INT ... SLB Jarrell Childs (6-2/230/Sr) 67-2-0
Strengths: Brown, a former five-star recruit who spend his first couple college seasons at Miami, is the leader of the defense and is one of the best linebackers in the conference. He's very active and makes plays all over the field. All three have a lot of experience and solid production numbers.
Weaknesses: Childs is a new starter on the strongside and they didn't cover the tight end too well as a group last season. Opposing tight ends could have some big games against them this season.

Defensive Back:
Players: CB Nigel Malone (5-10/185/Sr) 62 tackles, 12 PBU's, and 8 INT's ... CB Allen Chapman (5-11/180/Sr) 55-4-1 ... FS Ty Zimmerman (6-1/205/Jr) 134-0-5 ... SS Thomas Ferguson (6-0/200/Sr) 17-0-0
Strengths: Malone and Zimmerman are two of the premier defensive backs in the Big 12. Malone is a very good cover guy with ball skills, which makes him very tough to throw on. Zimmerman is a tremendous football player and is a big reason why they don't give up a lot of big plays.
Weaknesses: Chapman and Ferguson are new starters and struggled a lot at times last season. This unit surrendered 323 yards in the air against Division 1AA Missouri State last week in the opener so it could be a long year for them as a group.
