Scout on the Town - Midwest Recap
Waukesha West (Wisc.) vs Hartland Arrowhead (Wisc.)
Arrowhead junior offensive lineman George Panos, a Wisconsin commitment, was very impressive. He's a big kid at 6'5, 280-lbs, but has good footwork, is nimble, and able to get into the second level. He is a good drive blocker, shows good strength, and does a nice job of finishing his blocks. His pass set looked good, and he has a good punch. Overall, he is ahead of where most junior linemen are and validated his early NEXT 300 status. West senior tight end Dylan Chmura, a Michigan State commit, caught one pass and was injured on the tackle. He's a nice sized kid who was split out a lot, so we didn't get to see much of him as a blocker. Couple in the injury and he gets an incomplete grade for the day. Arrowhead junior Billy Hirschfeld had a really nice showing. He's tall at 6'6, but showed he could play inside and knifed into the backfield for a couple of big stops. He's a solid athlete who has the frame to fill out.
Chicago Marist (Ill.) vs Niles Notre Dame Prep (Ill.)
Marist junior Nic Weishar is a wide receiver who may be a big wideout or a tight end in college. He's a sure handed kid, and although he's on the lanky side, showed good strength, dragging defenders after the catch on several occasions, including a touchdown catch late in the game. I think he'll end up packing on pounds and being a tight end that can flex out and create some matchup issues. I didn't necessarily see BCS wide receiver speed, but I did see a kid who ran good routes, caught the ball very well and gave effort as a blocker. Notre Dame junior running back Chris James impressed. He's an explosive kid with breakaway speed and a great burst. Marist did a nice job of keeping him from breaking too many long runs, but he was able to grind out yardage as well. He currently has no offers, but I see that changing and possibly soon.

Canton (Ohio) McKinley vs Canton (Ohio) Glen Oak
Glen Oak won a thrilling 24-21 game, led by their two seniors, quarterback Reid Worstell and offensive tackle Steve Mathie. For Worstell, who holds an offer from Akron, it is a continuation of the success he had had this season. He was effective both throwing and running the football, and was especially productive moving the chains on third down. For Canton McKinley, senior defensive end Antoine Miles played his best game this season, and was dominant on his side of the line. Miles is down to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, and a decision could be coming soon.
Austintown Fitch vs Massillon
Massillon destroyed Fitch 34-14, in a game that wasn't as close as the score might indicate. The Tigers moved the ball at will on offense as quarterback Kyle Kempt (Cincinnati commit) threw four first-half touchdown passes. Gareon Conley impressed at both wide receiver and cornerback for the Tigers, catching two long scoring tosses from Kempt. Two junior offensive linemen, Chase Lash and Nathaniel Devers, both played well against Fitch four-star defensive lineman Billy Price, an Ohio State commit. Price didn't have his best game, but showed the size and quickness that has him rated as one of Ohio's top 2013 prospects.

Fort Wayne (IN) Bishop Luers vs Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Hartley
The focus of this game brought Jaylon Smith (Bishop Luers) and Jacob Matuska (Bishop Hartley) to the same field to battle each other. Both players are members of the FOXSportsNEXT.com Top 300 and future Notre Dame teammates and both impressed those in attendance. Matuska, who stands 6-foot-5, 265-pounds played both ways as a tight end and outside linebacker. He showed the ability to play in space going out and covering slot receivers while also being able to come to the line and crash against linemen. His future at Notre Dame looks to be on the defensive line and he could play inside or outside in the Irish 3-4 defensive scheme.
Smith, who at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds also played both ways taking snaps at tailback while shadowing Matuska on almost every play when on defense. Smith showed why he's one of the top players in the country with his combination of speed and power. Smith's future with the Irish will be at outside linebacker where he should be able to earn reps early in his career. While Smith says he's solid with the Irish, Ohio State is not giving up and sent defensive line coach Mike Vrabel to the game.

Glenbard North (Ill.) High vs Wheaton Warrenville South (Ill.)
In a matchup that Wheaton Warrenville South has dominated for the past decade, Glenbard North made their presence known Friday. North defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 27-21 in overtime. Glenbard North established the run game with talented 2014 running back Justin Jackson, who scored the go ahead touchdown in overtime. Jackson boasts offers from Boston College, Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue -- and it was clear why Friday. He did a great job of finding the holes, and leading his team to victory.

Hilliard Davidson (Ohio) vs Upper Arlington (Ohio)
Hilliard Davidson dominated this game from the beginning with senior E.J. Jennings leading the way. The running back ran for five touchdowns and proved to be an unstoppable force. Last season he broke his fibula and tore a ligament in his ankle, but after Friday's performance there is no doubt he is healed up. If there was a bright spot in Upper Arlington's 14-42 loss to Hilliard Davidson, it was junior Chris Frey. The athlete played on both sides of the ball and was responsible for all of his team's points after 47 and 62 yard touchdown runs.
