On bouncing back:
I expect them to respond. They bounced back after K-State. We have a great second half opportunity coming up. I hope they’re excited about taking the positives from the film from the first half of the season.
On possibly getting worn down:
We’ve played 31 guys when games were on the line and five or six who played a ton. We should be fresh going into the second half of the season.
He’s had a good stretch of three games. We do need our better players to perform better down the stretch.
On ND players saying the Canes lacked effort late:
I don’t think that’s accurate. Some of those guys were playing their first football games, like Raphael Kirby and Dequan Ivery. We were on the field for 80 some plays and 39 minutes.
On the roughing the punter call early:
It’s hard to get a three-and-out to start the game whenever a team has two weeks to prepare for you. We did that but then shot ourselves in the foot with the penalty (roughing the punter). Every defensive penalty led to a touchdown.
They have a big offensive line, a good quarterback, and (Gio) Bernard is exceptional.
On Corey King starting over Darius Smith:
They play two different positions. Corey plays tackle and Darius plays the nose. Each week we’re evaluating those guys. We played seven guys in there and it’s too close. We’re trying to find that guy to have in there all the time.
On staying positive:
We’re 4-2 and 3-0 in the ACC and that keeps me positive. We’re playing a lot of guys and 20 of those guys are first and second year players who will be around for a few more years so that keeps me positive.
