Canes can't hold on against UVA

The Hurricanes went on the road today and were unable to hold a late lead against Virginia, as the Cavs beat Miami by the score of 41-40.

In a game that featured 35 first quarter points and close to 1,000 yards of total offense between the two teams, Miami was unable to hold a late lead against Virginia.

The Cavs drove 87 yards in under three minutes to defeat the Hurricanes when Michael Rocco hit Jake McGee from 10 yards out in the back of the endzone. Rocco finished the game 29-of-37 passing for 300 yards and four touchdowns.

After Virginia took a 28-24 lead into halftime, the Canes seemed to make good adjustments by scoring 16 of the first 23 second half points heading into that final drive.

After Phillip Dorsett brought in a 35-yard touchdown reception from Stephen Morris in the third quarter, the Cavs scored 14 of the game's final 16 points. Dorsett was Miami's leading receiver in the game, finishing with six catches for 103 yards. Morris threw for 179 yards and three scores, without throwing a pick.

Allen Hurns caught two touchdown passes and Clive Walford caught another. However, it was freshman running back Duke Johnson who was Miami's most explosive player again. Johnson finished the game with 150 yards rushing, a touchdown pass, and a 95-yard kickoff return for a score.

The loss drops Miami to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. Despite the loss, the Canes can still clinch a berth in the ACC Championship Game with a win at Duke on November 24th. The Canes will play host to South Florida next Saturday.
