VIDEO: Doeren Talks With WRAL

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head football coach Dave Doeren met with WRAL.com following his hiring.

"I don't think you can say you want to be a champion and not be committed. That's a very important piece to the puzzle, and it's a 365-day, a year, commitment."

"We've got to have the same goals and visions, and we do. That's what has attracted me here."

"I do. I love it. Yeah, we'll jump on this ping pong table in a minute and see if I can beat you. It doesn't matter. That's how I'm wired. I love to compete, and I don't like to lose. That's just how it is."

"I think most in-state players will look at their in-state schools. You have to start the process early before it gets out of hand. If you wait until they are a senior you're not going to beat those guys. If we put a good product on the field, run good systems, and get on these kids when they are freshmen and sophomores then you have a chance. That's what we've got to do."

"When you know mom, dad, and the whole family can get in the car and drive and watch you play and you can still do it on the biggest stage at our program, why wouldn't you want that opportunity."

"I just wanted them to know that they have a coach that is very excited to be at State and can't wait to coach them... just give them the opportunity to re-write their history here. I think that's important when you take over."

"To let them know that they are working with a guy who can help them get to another level, not that the last staff didn't. I know they were good coaches, but obviously the administration made a point to bring someone in that has won some championships and I want to try and help them get there."
