Quick Hitter: Brown focused on four

Malik Brown

Malik Brown has taken two official visits, and he is looking to take some more as his decision nears. But after a trip to Big Ten country, the Floridian has added a new school to his top group.

Scout.com has learned that Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer defensive end Malik Brown, who was focused on a trio of schools, has added a fourth program to his short list after visiting Minnesota over the weekend.

The official visit not only led to Brown's first in-person snow experience, but it propelled the Gophers into the mix with Syracuse, Mississippi State and South Florida for his services.

"It was very nice, I liked it a lot," he added via text message.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defensive end prospect, who holds over a dozen BCS-level offers, doesn't currently have any trips planned though it's a priority as the recruiting cycle winds down. A recent trip to Central New York, combined with the amount of attention the Orange recently showed him, had the future ACC school in good shape - but his relationship with the Gophers linebackers coach was the main reason the Big Ten now has a shot at him.

"The relationship with Bill Miller..." said Brown on what put Minnesota near the top of his list.

Assuming official visits are scheduled to Mississippi State and USF, a decision from the versatile defensive prospect is expected within a month or so.

Said Brown on his timetable, "Mid-January probably."
