Duke a FWAA Freshman All-American

Posted Jan 7, 2013

University of Miami running back Duke Johnson was selected to the Football Writer's Association of American Freshman All-American Team.

Duke Johnson is fresh off a tremendous freshman season for the Hurricanes. His 2,060 all-purpose yards (with 13 touchdowns) is the highest ever for a freshman at Miami, breaking a record that was previously held by Clinton Portis.

Johnson, 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, was Miami's leading rusher this season (947 yards, which ended up third in the conference) and is expected to play an even bigger role in 2013. The former five-star recruit from Miami's Norland High School, Johnson will have even bigger expectations on him for the 2013 season.

Johnson was Miami's only player selected to the team. Florida State defensive back Ronald Darby and Maryland receiver Stefon Diggs were other ACC players selected to the team.

Offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson was selected to the team back in 2010. Defensive tackle Marcus Forston (2008), safety Kenny Phillips (2005), and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork (2001) were others selected in previous years.
