Five Hurricanes will play in Super Bowl

Five former University of Miami players will play in Sunday's Super Bowl.

The Miami Hurricanes are always well represented in the NFL, and Sunday's Super Bowl is a big example of that.

While Florida (two) and Florida State (one) will combine to have three former players in the game, the Hurricanes will have five. It's more than any other college program in college football.

Three Balltimore Ravens -- middle linebacker Ray Lewis, left tackle Bryant McKinnie, and free safety Ed Reed -- will represent their former school. The San Francisco 49ers have two former Hurricanes -- running back Frank Gore and outside linebacker Tavares Gooden.

Lewis is the heart and soul of Baltimore's defense, and their entire team. After missing several games due to an injury earlier this season, he's been outstanding since returning. Lewis made 16 tackles against New England in the AFC Championship Game. McKinnie teams with Michael Oher to form a very good tandem at tackle. Reed, who has already announced that he plans to return next season, is one of the game's best safeties.

Gore has been the one constant on the 49er offense this season. While they've used two quarterbacks and multiple go-to receivers, Gore went for over 1,000 yards during the regular season and has been very strong in the playoffs. Gooden is a backup linebacker who should see the field for a few snaps on Sunday.

At least two more Super Bowl rings will be given out to former Miami Hurricanes after Sunday's game. That continues to be one of the many reasons why Miami has so much recruiting success.
