Player: S Jamal Carter
School: Miami Southridge
Recruiting: The Hurricanes have been recruiting him for two years now. He committed to the Hurricanes back in July. He took in-season visits to LSU and Oklahoma but never really wavered much from his commitment to the Canes.
Scouting Report: Carter is a very talented safety prospect who has the size and tackling ability to play up near the box as a strong safety. He's also athletic enough and has the necessary ball skills to play free safety in college. --Mike Bakas
2012 season: Carter finished his senior season with over 60 tackles, two interceptions, and three caused fumbles.
Mike’s Take: The Hurricanes need a physical presence at the safety position, and they’re getting one with Carter. He’s even more physical, at this age, than Deon Bush was. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Carter is also a very good athlete who has the speed and range to play free safety. He will likely play strong, where he can drop down into the box and make a lot of plays. He’s one of the state’s premier safety prospects and will help upgrade the position for the Canes in 2013.
