Smith, 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, had a fantastic junior season in 2012, registering 18 sacks and 73 tackles. He was named first team All-Dade County for his efforts.
"Last year, I felt I did well enough to be able to stand out from a lot of the players in the area," Smith stated. "I came to practice every day on a mission, and I still feel if I keep working hard that it will pay off."
"What I did best last year was coming off the edge on third down and getting after the quarterback," he added. "I'm working on gaining more weight and strength, and also trying to get faster."
College recruiters have taken notice, and Smith currently holds three offers, with more potentially coming.
"Recruiting is going great and I have a lot of great schools showing interest in me," Smith stated. "Tennessee, Cincinnati and Marshall have all offered, and I think Florida and Florida State are getting close."
"I visited Alabama and Miami for camp last summer," he continued. "I'm planning on going to camps at Florida State and Georgia for sure next summer, and I want to go to as many as possible. My top five schools would be Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Florida and Miami."
