The Hurricanes program is one the three-star defensive lineman from McCalla (Ala.) McAdory has always kept a close eye on. It has an immediate impact on his recruitment.
But are the Canes vaulting to the top?
"I don't know right now. I have got to get down there soon," he admitted. "Mississippi State is still number one."
The offer means that much to Thomas, who hasn't been to Coral Gables yet.
"Coach [Al] Golden let me know (about the offetr), but it wasn't a surprise like all the other ones," he said. "I just felt it was coming. He likes the way I play the game. Because you know they changed their defense to a 3-4 and they want me to play on the defensive end."
The lack of shock didn't lessen the potential impact of the offer.
"It meant a lot coming from a school like them," said the 6-foot-6, 270-pounder. "The fact that they put all them players in the NFL, it's kind of like my dream school.
"The crazy thing about it is that I was watching their 30 for 30..."
There was even a slight temptation to pull the trigger.
"Kind of, but I'm just going to wait," said Thomas. "I just need time, but I'm not waiting on any other offers.
"I may be ready after football season."
Citing the need to take official visits before a decision, one of the top players in Alabama has a working top five heading into the summer camp circuit and there's a distinct order to the list.
Thomas is currently ranked the No. 40 defensive tackle prospect nationally on FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com.
