West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade quarterback Brad Kaaya was the lone Southern California native at the Elite 11 Finals, but one of five Golden State quarterbacks in the event.

After the full week in Beaverton, including The Opening, Kaaya was selected to the Elite 11.

"It's definitely awesome, just getting to compete with these other highly ranked quarterbacks," said Kaaya. "We were breeding some great competition and everyone rose to a higher level."

Kaaya embraced his standing as the lone Southland passer.

"It's kind of surprising, actually. I thought there would be more from Southern California. There were a lot from California in general. But it's a great state to represent."

The Miami commit said he was doing some recruiting at the event.

"Joe Mixon was on my team, we had like everybody on my team, so I was telling them about the U," said Kaaya.

And despite the two local schools making a push for him, Kaaya hasn't wavered with the Canes.

"A lot of schools, USC and UCLA, they recently contacted me and invited me to their camp, but I can't go to another camp. I'm solid to Miami," said Kaaya. "I don't want to shake things up. I'm solid and I'm happy with Miami. You take out football and Miami is still an awesome school."

Kaaya said he was working to graduate early so he could be on campus for spring ball.

"I'm thinking about it and working on it because I'm trying to get down there in January," said Kaaya.
