Canes add three more to roster

Just a few days after adding Oklahoma State transfer Naim Mustafaa to its roster, the Hurricanes added three more defensive linemen on Saturday.

Ufomba Kamalu, David Gilbert, and Justin Renfrow have been cleared and started practicing with the team today.

Kamalu, 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, is a Junior College transfer who signed with the Hurricanes back in February. The MVP of the Juco National Championship game last December, Kamalu is expected to gain immediate playing time on Miami's defensive line this season. He will wear No. 90.

Gilbert, 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, is a transfer from Wisconsin. A three-star defensive end prospect coming out of Broward County a few years back, Gilbert played in all four seasons at Wisconsin. He started 17 games there, and finished with 79 tackles, 14.5 for loss, four sacks, and three caused fumbles. An Honorable Mention All Big 10 selection last season, Gilbert has one more year of eligibility because of a season-ending injury he suffered in 2011. He graduated from Wisconsin this summer, and will be eligible to play for the Hurricanes right away in 2013. He will wear No. 11.

Renfrow, 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, signed with Virginia as a three-star recruit from the state of Pennsylvania a few years back. Recruited by Golden and his Temple staff out of high school, Renfrow redshirted in 2009 before playing the last three seasons. He finished his career with 22 games played (0 starts), 18 tackles, and no sacks. Like Gilbert, Renfrow graduated this summer and is eligible to play his final year at Miami in 2013. He will wear No. 78.
