After the David Sims 7-yard touchdown run, the Hurricanes answered right back with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Morris to Phillip Dorsett. The junior receiver finished the game with four catches for 66 yards.
Miami's defense was much better in the second quarter, keeping the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard. Morris found tight end Clive Walford for a 4-yard touchdown pass before Matt Goudis kicked a 24-yard field goal at the end of the first half to tie the game.
Miami's defense, which gave up 392 yards of total offense on the day, made strong halftime adjustments. They kept Tech off the scoreboard for the entire third quarter as well while the offense added another touchdown. Morris found Allen Hurns, who raced in for a 69-yard touchdown. Morris finished the game with 324 yards and three touchdowns, along with a pair of interceptions.
After Georgia Tech scored a touchdown early in the 4th to cut the lead to 24-23, Miami really took over. Dallas Crawford scored two fourth quarter touchdowns before Ladarius Gunter had a pick six to close out the scoring for the Canes.
Tech added a late touchdown on their final drive of the game but it was too late, as the Canes were able to close the game out for their season-opening win in ACC play.
The Hurricanes will have next week off, followed by a Thursday night trip to North Carolina.
