It's official -- QB is transferring to UM

Former Kansas quarterback Jake Heaps, a five star recruit coming out of high school, has signed with Miami and will be transferring here this summer.

Jake Heaps signed with BYU as a five-star recruit out of high school. After going to BYU, Heaps set numerous freshman passing records.

Heaps, 6-foot-1, threw for 2,316 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was named the New Mexico Bowl MVP at the end of the season. He followed that up with a solid sophomore season in 2011.

Heaps then transferred to Kansas to play for QB guru Charlie Weis. After sitting out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Heaps started nine games for the Jayhawks in 2013 and threw for 1,414 yards and eight touchdowns.

The talented quarterback prospect, who is originally from Washington, signed Financial Aid papers with Miami today and is set to enroll here later this summer, head coach Al Golden announced.

The addition of Heaps comes at a good time for the Hurricanes, as it will give the team an experienced option at quarterback. Heaps will be expected to compete with Kevin Olsen for the starting role -- at least until Ryan Williams returns from injury. Recommended Stories
