Birmingham Snags Offer From "Tight End U"

Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes dipped into the Old Dominion State earlier this week and offered one of the nation's best at tight end for the 2016 class.

An elusive, pass-catching tight end at 6-foot-4, 230-pounds, Mark Birmingham has collegiate coaches eager to get their hands on him and host him for a visit in the near future to help solidify their standing in his recruitment.

"Recruiting has been going well and I hold 12 offers," Birmingham said. "The main ones I would say are Florida State, Miami, Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin."

The Miami Hurricanes have produced a lengthy list of ultra-productive tight ends in the past decade, including Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Jimmy Graham, Bubba Franks and Greg Olsen.

The Virginia native boasted a scholarship offers from Al Golden's coaching staff on Tuesday, which was a special moment that brought joy to both parties.

"The offer came in about three days ago when my coach gave me a call about the news," Birmingham said. "After that, I called (tight ends) coach (Larry) Scott and we kind of talked for a bit. We were both psyched about it and he wants me to come down.

"The main thing for me would be that it's such a tight end university. What they've done with tight ends is awesome."

Birmingham says he has no leaders in his recruitment, and plans on attending a camp at Florida later this summer to round out his visit plans for the summer. Recommended Stories
