When it comes to finding the football and making plays, nobody in south Florida did it better than Miami (Fla.) Coral Reef linebacker Eric Houston this year. "I led all of Dade and Broward with 131 tackles," Houston said.
"And I did that in nine games. I just have the instinct to find the ball, I guess. I think I'm pretty smart on the field. A lot of guys are fast and athletic but it doesn't matter if you dont know where you're going. I'm a big Jon Vilma fan and that's how he does it."
Houston, 6-2 and 220 pounds, and his team suffered through a rough season. He mentioned one player that really jumped out at him this season.
"The junior running back from Central (Terry Williams) was probably the best," he said. "He's a complete back. He is quick, he hits the holes hard, and he has some waggle to him to make people miss. He got injured in our game and missed a lot of games but he was a complete back. I can see him really tearing it up next year."
Houston, a full academic qualifier, has three official visits lined up and is still talking to several others.
"I go to
West Virginia
on December 3rd, NC State on the 10th, and
Auburn
on the 17th," he said. "I really can't say who my top choice is right now because I think I need to take my visits to figure that out."
Houston is hoping to hear more from the
Miami
coaches.
"UM's where everyone wants to be," he said. "That's the offer everyone wants. I'd love to get it. My coach has been talking to them. I had a good camp there over the summer and now they're trying to get my tape from this season. We're gonna give it to them this week so hopefully I hear good things back."
