Defensive tackle Antonio Dixon has signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Miami. Dixon was a member of the last year's recruiting class, but he played football in 2004 at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y.
Defensive Tackle, 6-4, 338
Miami
, Florida / Milford Prep and Booker T. Washington HS
Currently attending Milford Academy prep school in New Berlin, New York. Aggressive and talented lineman who originally signed with UM in 2004. Reminds some observers of former Huricanes star
Vince Wilfork
. Hard-working big player who can run and has fine technique that he honed over the past year in prep school. Has good size and strength and showed excellent balance for a player his size. Gets a strong push on the defensive front. In his only season at Milford Prep in 2004, finished with 77 tackles, including a team-high 21 takedowns behind the line of scrimmage, and 11.5 sacks (tied for best on the team). Team finished with an 11-1 record. Playing against Navy's JV squad, had seven tackles, two for loss, and one sack. Against Lafayette's JV, had 10 tackles, four for loss, and two sacks. In high school, played both offensive and defensive line, grading out at better than 90 percent in his blocking assignments as a senior in 2003. On defense, made 62 tackles and 10.5 sacks. Had eight sacks as a junior. One of the most athletic linemen who came out of the state of Florida in 2004.
Ranked as the No. 23 defensive tackle this year by Scout.com.
Chose Miami over Florida,
Florida State
,
Rutgers
and
South Florida
. Coached by Tim Harris.
From Greg Mark: "For us, he has the potential to be a taller Vince Wilfork. He has size and width and the ability to play the run. He's a run-stopping defensive tackle, but he needs some experience. He has the ability to be a good inside pass rusher."
