Possible Coaching Candidate: Greg Schiano

Greg Schiano

Thoughts on why Greg Schiano should come to Miami.

My thoughts on Schiano are as follows after just coming back from the Rutgers 38-7 over Syracuse to improve to 10-1 on the season.

I saw a fast, aggressive Defense out there. They swarm to the ball. They force turnovers and their running game was very good. They moved the chains and they got their Tight Ends involved in the offense. They also had quick strikes after forcing turnovers.

Mike Teel today, reminded me of a young Ken Dorsey from 1999 with the intelligence and the big play. It's something we used to do many times in the past, right after a forced turnover, and on the next play, we'd throw the deep ball for a TD to our receivers. That was something Teel did today that I noticed.

Brian Leonard today reminds me of a Najeh Davenport, only better, in fact, he reminds me of a young Mike Alstott and John Riggins. He's an unbelievable athlete. Ray Rice running reminds me of a young Clinton Portis and a James Jackson combined. He's quick, he's strong, and he cuts back and finds the holes, something Willis used to do a lot while here.

The atmosphere there today, I could have sworn, I was in the Orange Bowl, but the place reminds me more of Boston College. The fans in our section, and my brother in law and I had tickets in the 2nd row at the 45 on the Syracuse side. You could tell they looked dejected out there.

The fans were chanting, "Hey #14, you suck!!!" and they did that with different players and they were ragging the Syracuse players and especially the QBs when they came back to the sidelines.

On the issue of Schiano, I saw two signs that stood out while at the game: "Sorry Miami, Schiano is R's" and "Just Say No!" with the :neonu on a slash. He's a coach I would to have in Coral Gables at the Hecht. He would bring intensity, emotion, and the fire it would take to win here. I expect no decision on Schiano until after the WVU game.

My gut says we're going to make an offer to him, he'll accept it and an official announcement probably the Monday or Tuesday after the WVU game.

Wouldn't it be ironic if RU wins the Big East Next Saturday Night and accepts a bid to the Orange Bowl Classic at Dolphins Stadium?

I wonder how many of our fans will go to the game to see our next coach vs. ACC competition. It would something of a dry run for Schiano going into 2007 as the Head Coach if he is hired. That would be money I'd pay just for that chance.

This is a coach that will win and win immediately. The talent is in place, we have a championship Defense right now, where GS would instill the fire is on O and he would have a solid offensive coordinator in place when he comes here.

From day one of Spring Practice at Greentree, the players will get the message that the days of the country club atmosphere under Coker is OVER!!!!

You will see hard work, toughness re-instilled into this team. You'll see the blood, the sweat and the tears are evident on this team. At the spring game, you'll see the results of Schiano's hard work; this will be like night and day. If it's anything like I saw today in New Brunswick/Piscataway, get ready Cane fans for an unbelievable ride.

In closing, I want to say that the atmosphere at Rutgers is amazing, and the excitement there this season was 2nd to None, 6-0 at home this year, 1st undefeated season at home since 1984 and next Saturday Night, they have a chance to win the BE title for the 1st time in the 16 year history of the conference.

Amazing story and a dream season for the Scarlet Knights. I would love to see that kind of atmosphere return to the OB, the music blaring on 3rd down and the crowd being jacked up like it was today at Rutgers Stadium.

It was a great experience today and something that I want to see return very soon to Miami.
