Braun Called up by the Brewers

Ryan Bruan

The Milwaukee Brewers have recalled former Hurricane Ryan Braun. He is expected to start at third base tonight as the Brewers face San Diego and Greg Maddux.

Ryan Braun, a first-round pick in 2005, was batting .342 with 10 home runs in 33 games with Triple-A Nashville.

"We're sitting nine games above .500 right now," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the team's official Web site. "We think Ryan Braun is going to be a good big-league hitter, we've got a lot of confidence, but the thing is that no one player can carry a team for a whole season."

Braun, 23, was named the Brewers Minor League Player of the Year in 2006 and was invited to spring training this year.

Despite hitting .353 with five homers and 15 RBI in 11 games, he did not make the Opening Day roster as he was sent down to work on his defensive ability.

At Miami (2003-05), Braun was a career .365 hitter. His 45 home runs and 197 RBI rank fourth respectively on UM's all-time list.
