This past weekend was the annual showcase for the best talent in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in the 2007 All-Dade versus All-Broward All-Star Game. This past weekend was the annual showcase for the best talent in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in the 2007 All-Dade versus All-Broward All-Star Game. Among the two handfuls of Miami Hurricane recruits on board was Booker T. Washington wide receiver Davon Johnson.

“The game was alright, but we lost,” Johnson said. “It brought together all of the competition in Dade and Broward Counties, so It was fun. I played alright, I didn’t get a lot of balls though.”

Johnson (5-foot-11, 165 pounds), who didn’t record a catch in the game impressed though with his speed.

“I did feel good during the game,” Johnson said. “The speed of the game changed a bit since I played against the top competition, but I was able to keep up. I am used to seeing everyone on the field, but I got used to the speed.”

Johnson felt the group of players was of the best in the state, some of which he wishes were on his team at Booker T.

“The game and week were good, just coming into the game I had wished a few of these guys I played against were on my team,” Johnson said. “Some of these where Quavon Taylor (linebacker) from Miami Northwestern, St. Thomas Aquinas (safety) Christian Thompson, and Miami Edison (cornerback) Darren Fulton.”

A few of Johnson’s future Miami Hurricane teammates also impressed him.

“My teammates (at Booker T. Washington) Thearon Collier and Brandon( Harris were good,” Johnson said. “I also liked (Archbishop Carroll cornerback) George Baker.”

Upcoming for Johnson are two more visits, this weekend, he’ll make his official visit to Coral Gables to see the University of Miami. Following that is a trip to Tampa for his official to South Florida.

“Next week I have USF, but this week, I have Miami,” Johnson said. “I just want to interact with some of the players on the team when I get to Miami. I just want to see how student life is down there.”

South Florida though, is going to be an interesting visit, considering Johnson has never been there.

“I don’t know much about (USF), so I just want to see how the program is up there,” Johnson said.

Despite the visit, Johnson is still firmly committed to the Hurricanes.

“I’m still committed to Miami, no doubt,” Johnson said. “My parents will be going with me on both trips. They haven’t really been to either place yet, so they want to see the schools.”

Johnson reports a 2.8 GPA.
