Booker T. Washington wide receiver Thearon Collier was one of the stars of this past weekends Dade versus Broward All-Star game. He also will be visiting Coral Gables for his official visit. Read on to see what he has to say.

This weekend, Thearon Collier put on a show at the 2007 edition of the All-Dade versus All-Broward game. He was, to many, the best player on the field.

Collier used the game as a springboard into playing at the collegiate level.

“It was just a real good game that gets you prepared for the next level,” Collier said. “I prepared all week, very hard to get to that next level. I realized I need to get stronger.”

Collier totaled nine catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns said practice for the game prepared the players a lot in the nuances of the game that they will have to study when they learn collegiate playbooks.

“We were working a lot of reading zones and being able to pick up blitzes and trying to read blitz packages,” Collier said. “Also, we were adjusting with hot routes and adjusting to pressures from packages. Another big things was reading a guys speed and being a slot guy, I had to work on reading linebacker and going over the top of them.”

Collier thought his teammate at Booker T. Washington, cornerback, Brandon Harris was the player who stood out the most.

“(Harris) was big time in that game,” Collier said. “The two picks he had really gave us a chance in that game.”

This weekend, Collier will take his official visit to Coral Gables. It won’t be the first time he has been on campus at Miami, but he is expecting a good time.

“I expect a lot, I really want to see how they run things down there,” Collier said. “I know I’ll go down there and have some fun. I’ve been there and my parents and I have already seen my dorm, it a nice quiet community over there, I’m really looking forward to meeting new friends there, it’ll be good.”

Collier has already met all of the coaches on the staff, even new wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill. However, he is looking forward to being able to get to know him a bit more.

“I actually talked to Coach Hill today, he got to school on Friday and he was able to speak with my mom and she was able to get to know him a bit,” Collier said. “I am getting to know more about him and he seems real cool.”

Collier compared Hill to former wide receivers coach Marquis Mosely.

“They are both cool, they aren’t much different in the little time that I’ve know Coach Hill,” Collier said. “Both wanted to be able to play true freshman this year so they want us to learn the playbooks. I don’t think there will be anything different between the two, but I look forward to getting to know Coach Hill more.”
