This weekend, the ‘Canes will host ten potential players in 2008’s final visit weekend of the recruiting season. Of the group is Fort Myers High School (FL) C.J. Odom. Read on for the latest from C.J. before he trips to Coral Gables.

Fort Myers High School (FL) safety C.J. Odom, a Hurricane commit since October is taking his official visit to Coral Gables this weekend, the last in the 2008 recruiting season.

“I am actually in (Coral Gables right now),” Odom said. “(My mother and older brother) are walking around on campus, meeting people in the academic departments and seeing things like that.”

The campus aesthetics were the first thing that took Odom (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) by surprise.

“The first thing I thought was ‘This is a real nice place’,” Odom said.

With his visit going smoothly so far, Odom mentions the visit doesn’t have any outcome to his intentions on signing day. He plans to ink with the Hurricanes this Wednesday.

“Basically, everything already covers itself,” Odom said. “I’ve accepted it all already, but I am just coming down to see what it is really like.”

One of the more important aspects of the visit was to get his mother and brother to campus so they can check out.

“I am down here with my mother and my brother who is like a father figure to me,” Odom said. “It is a great, great place. My mom doesn’t have any worries about me going away for school so she is just enjoying herself on this visit.”

Odom will trip with nine other Hurricane recruits. Some of which are already committed to the Hurricanes and some that are still undecided.

“I am down here with some of the Miami Northwestern guys and a few other guys that needed to come down before they make their decision. We’ll see about them. Me and the guys that are already down here are seeing what we can do to get them here.”

Odom has been working hard in the class room to qualify for the University before the summer.

“(Academically) everything is going great,” Odom said. “Things are coming along well. I am hoping I can get in by summer. If everything gets done that needs to be done – and I am going to work as hard as possible so it does – when the time comes, I’ll be here.”

Odom reports a 2.5 GPA and is awaiting his score on the SAT.
