Canes ranked 20th in new AP poll

Posted Sep 8, 2009

The Hurricanes went on the road and defeated 18th-ranked Florida State on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, they were rewarded with a new ranking in the AP poll.

The Hurricanes check in at No. 20 in the newly released AP poll, which came out Tuesday morning. The Canes knocked Florida State from the rankings.

The Canes are one of four ACC teams in the rankings, joining Virginia Tech (14), Georgia Tech (15), and North Carolina (19).

A win against 15th-ranked Georgia Tech next Thursday night would likely put the Canes in the top 15 as it would mean they will have started the season with two wins over top 20 programs.

Florida, Texas, USC, Alabama, and Oklahoma State sit atop the rankings.
