Jacory: I need to play better

Jacory Harris is taking a lot of the blame for Saturday's loss against Clemson. Read on to see what he's saying about that, the upcoming game against Wake Forest, and more.

On the team’s feelings after Clemson…
“But at the same time we got on the field this morning, and yesterday at walk through it kind of surprised me, that everybody was running around full of speed, laughing and joking around, like ‘This can’t ever happen again.’ We’ve said that before, but now we’ve dug ourselves too deep in a hole. We can’t let it go any deeper.”

On seeing the field better and cutting down on interceptions…
It’s something that’s part of the game. I know in this game, I was trying to take a chance. I got to give it to number 2 [DeAndre McDaniel]. Number 2 did a good job…I helped him out a little bit…Sometime the ball doesn’t fall the right way.”

On leading the ACC in interceptions…
“Of course it’s going to shock me, because you don’t want to throw any interceptions, but at the same time, those are my mistakes. So I have to step it up, and that’s something I’m willing to take all the blame and credit for.”

On his approach to games…
“I’m still approaching the game the same way. I don’t want to change me. We’re 5-2. We’re still comfortable, but we’re not where we want to be at. If being aggressive and making the correct read - but sometimes just slipping up a little bit - got us at 5-2, I got to keep on doing it and just try to lower my mistakes.”

On the difficulties of being a first- year starter…
It’s just how you bounce back after things happen like this. I believe that I’m the type of person that can put this behind me…It’s a lot to learn. It’s a lot of things to look at. As soon as I’m running to the sideline, I’m already telling coach [Whipple] what I’ve seen…It’s a lot of stuff to look at while you have the rush of the defensive lineman, so you have to be on point with that.”

On his confidence level…
Yes, the confidence level is still high, and that’s what keeps me confident, because I know my team still believes in me. I still believe in my team. Mistakes happen. That’s a part of football. We won five games doing the things correct…So, they know we’ll get the job done.

On the thought of finishing 10-2…
“We haven’t had enough time to think about scenarios. Right now, we just want to win the rest of our games. That’s what we’re thinking about right now…Keep on moving forward, do all things that your coaches been teaching you and have fun.”

On the last play of the Clemson game…
“Yea, it is tough. It’s almost like losing your dog. I was standing up at the time I saw Kyle Parker throw the crossing route, and when he caught it and he scored, I was like, alright, offense on the field, even though I knew the game was over…I just sat down and was like I cant believe this.

On Clemson…
Clemson is a great team, and that was great opponent. We came into the week knowing that we were going to face somebody that didn’t have someone you could just run over. They had good players at every position. We played hard but we didn’t execute the right way.

On if he ever suggests plays…
I’ll whisper in his ear sometimes. Coach Whipple has a lot of faith in me. He’s someone who is understandable. He listens to you and understands you.”

On how much he changes plays…
“It’s not that much. I’m confident in the plays he calls, so I don’t really have to change anything.”

On the penalties…
“It hurts. There’s no reason for them. We’re just not focused. We got to stay focused. I think we’re last in the ACC in penalties, so we just got to pick up everything. We just got to keep everything going. We just got to play smart. “
