| Biography: |
| In 2001, Coker went 12-0 in his first season at the helm. Prior to Coker's 2001 accomplishments, the best start in the modern era was Dennis Erickson's 11-1 campaign in 1989 when Erickson won the National Championship over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. His Hurricanes completed an undefeated 7-0 BIG EAST season, along with a 6-0 mark at the Orange Bowl and 5-0 record on the road. And he became the first rookie head coach in 53 years to win the national championship. |
