Julian Gamble started the game with a hook shot, but Mark Lyons was able to get into the lane and tie it with a layup. Durand Scott responded with two free-throws before Lyons hit one from deep. Kenny Kadji then hit a three-pointer of his own to put Miami up 7-5 at the media timeout.
Kaleb Tarczewski scored his first basket of the game, but once again Kadji responded. Solomon Hill then scored for the Wildcats, but Kadji hit another shot. However, Kevin Parrom responded with a three-pointer and then hit a layup in traffic to put Arizona up 14-11 with 11:40 left in the first half. Parrom scored out of a timeout to extend the lead to five and Nick Johnson hit one of two free throws shortly after.
Scott ended the 8-0 run with a three and Shane Larkin added one of his own to tie the game at 17 with about eight minutes left. Johnson got the lead back for the Wildcats with a left-handed layup and then picked up a dunk off a Miami turnover to force a Hurricane timeout with a little over seven minutes left and UA leading 21-17.
Kadji scored his ninth point of the game to cut the lead to two, but Johnson and Lyons hit consecutive threes before Kadji scored again. After two free-throws by Lyons, Jordin Mayes then hit a three-pointer as well to put the Wildcats up 32-21 with 3:26 left. Grant Jerrett hit another three for Arizona and after a shot by Scott, Jerrett hit a jumper to put the Wildcats up 37-21.
Kadji was able to bring Miami within 12 with a three-pointer and the deficit held into the half, as Arizona went in with a 37-25 lead.
Hill started the second half by making two free-throws, but Larkin hit a floater shortly after. Hill was then fouled again while shooting and made both of them to put Arizona up 41-27 early in the second half. Kadji was able to score in the paint and Lyons hit a shot a few seconds later as the teams kept exchanging baskets.
Kadji was able to score his second basket in a row, but a defensive breakdown led to an easy dunk by Tarczewski before Scott proceeded to hit two from the line to cut Arizona's lead to 45-33. Hill hit a jumper out of a timeout, but Scott got to the line and hit one of two free-throws to keep the Hurricanes within 13 with a little under 14 minutes left.
Parrom responded by hitting one of two from the line as well and Tarczewski was able to pick up a dunk on an offensive rebound to give the Wildcats a 50-34 lead before Larkin hit a three with a little over 12 minutes left. Parrom then hit a three pointer in response to force Miami to call timeout down 16 points.
It took a few minutes for either team to score coming out of a timeout, but a three by Lyons gave Arizona the 19-point lead with about ten minutes left. A layup by Kadji gave him his season high of 19 points before Angelo Chol was able to get on the board by hitting one of two free-throws. Larkin hit a jumper out of a timeout, but Lyons came back with two straight baskets to extend the UA lead to 20 before a Tarczewski dunk with about four minutes left made it 22 points.
Johnson made a jumper soon after and then went coast-to-coast to give the Wildcats a 26-point lead with three minutes left.
With the win, Arizona advances to play San Diego State on Tuesday.
