Joseph Yearby is already committed to the Hurricanes. At 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds, Yearby is a tremendously productive running back from Miami Central High. He was a one-time commitment to Florida State before switching his commitment to Miami not long after James Coley got the job here. Yearby's commitment is solid but he has indicated a desire to take some other visits so it can't be considered 100-percent just yet. He's clearly the headliner, though.
The Hurricanes offered two other elite running back prospects in South Florida but both players committed to SEC schools in recent weeks. Miami Central's Dalvin Cook (Florida) and American Heritage's Sony Michel (Georgia) are heading elsewhere as of right now but the Hurricanes are expected to continue recruiting both players. It remains to be seen whether or not they'll have any success in doing so.
Miami's offers to additional out-of-state running back prospects, even after the Yearby commitment, indicates their desire to sign a second player at the position.
Players like Leonard Fourtnette (Louisiana), Joe Mixon (Calfornia), Racean Thomas, and Daniel Gresham (Texas) are elite level running back prospects who are being recruited by everyone, including Miami. They're extreme longshots for the Hurricanes, however.
The two out-of-state running back prospects to watch most closely right now are both from the state of North Carolina. At 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, Havelock's Derrell Scott was offered by Miami earlier this spring. He's being recruited like a high end three star player but recently named a top seven that didn't include Miami. At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Donte Williams (Hillside HS) is a big back who was offered by Miami last month. He now has over 20 scholarship offers, including one from Miami. While he's expressed some interest in the Hurricanes, landing him will be extremely tough for the Hurricanes.
Look for the Canes to continue actively recruiting Michel and Cook, and to continue sprinkling in some offers to out-of-state running back prospects as well.
