A California offer makes a big impact on a big defensive lineman, as the Bears staff allays fears, talks depth chart and -- more importantly -- starts planning.

Just over a week and a half ago, De Anza Junior College defensive lineman Victor Vernon paid an unofficial visit to California on a bit of a spur-of-the-moment trip at the suggestion of his coach.
