Miami 77, Savannah State 7

The University of Miami defeated Savannah State by the score of 77-7 on Saturday night. The Canes are now riding a five-game winning streak dating back to last season.

It was a mismatch from the opening kickoff, which Duke Johnson returned to the SSU 4-yard line. The Hurricanes scored a school-record 77 points, totaled over 600 yards of offense, and emptied the bench in the big win.

Dallas Crawford took the first play four yards to open the scoring. Johnson finished the game with 59 yards on eight carries and a score. Crawford carried it five times for 48 yards and two scores. He also added a score through the air. Freshman Gus Edwards had the biggest day of the running backs, going for 94 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.

Stephen Morris hit Allen Hurns for a 80-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 just three minutes into the game. Unfortunately, Morris suffered an ankle injury on the next drive and was removed from the game. X-rays have already come back negative, however, so the Canes avoided a big scare. Ryan Williams went 11-for-13 for 176 yards and two scores off the bench. Gray Crow, seeing his first action as a Hurricane, completed all six passes for 55 yards and a score.

Hurns finished with 100 yards and a score, but the breakout performance among the pass-catchers came from junior tight end Beau Sandland. He hauled in six passes for 76 yards and a score. Stacy Coley added a touchdown reception and a long kickoff return touchdown.

Miami's defense limited the SSU offense to 183 yards, 1-of-13 on third downs, and they got four turnovers.

The Hurricanes are now 3-0 on the season. They've now won five games dating back to last season. The team will now prepare for a road game at South Florida next Saturday.
