Williams picks Noles

On Tuesday afternoon, Florida State secured a big commitment from Fayetteville (N.C.) E.E. Smith lineman Arthur Williams.

E.E. Smith star Arthur Williams committed to Florida State on Tuesday.

"It was ultimately the best fit for me," said the 6-foot-5, 298-pound Williams. "Education-wise, they have a really good business school and that's my major."

Other factors also went into his decision.

"It's also in the South and it's close to home," said Williams, who also has a lot of family in Georgia. "I have a great opportunity to have a chance to play early, too.

"And when I camped down there over the summer that also helped me with my decision. I got to see how the coaches coach and train guys. I also got to take a tour of the campus and was able to get a feel for it. The atmosphere really stuck out to me."

The E.E. Smith standout has a good relationship with Florida State running back coach Jay Graham, who is his recruiting coach.

"He keeps it real with me," Williams said. "He doesn't make everything about business and football. It's more of a family relationship."

Williams watched Florida State's big win over Clemson last weekend and has been impressed with the job head coach Jimbo Fisher has done.

"It was a big win," he said. "I knew they were going to get the win. Coach Fisher has done a great job with the program. He's also done great job of working with Jameis (Winston) and helping him become an elite quarterback."

Williams has talked with the Seminoles' coaching staff about the role they want him to play.

"They are recruiting me to play defense," Williams said. "They want me to play the 3-technique and the 5-technique."

Williams is relieved to have the recruiting process behind him.

"I feel like a tremendous amount of weight has been lifted off my shoulders," he said. "When you start off with the recruiting process, everybody tells you how fun it's going to be. But it can bring pressure and be exhausting. In the end, it's worth it – to live out your dream."

E.E. Smith is 4-4 and host Fayetteville (N.C.) Cape Fear Friday at 7:30.

Williams is a three-star prospect and the 50th-ranked offensive tackle in the country. He chose Florida State over offers from Miami and East Carolina, as well as interest from Auburn.
